Mi Casa
For the Frida Kahlo project, we chose a famous person, an object/animal, and an outfit which represents the character of your choice. I chose P!nk, a famous singer as my Frida. We wrote three paragraphs in Spanish that explains the personality/identity of your celebrity, and what he/she is representing in your picture. In addition to the paragraphs, I drew an image of P!nk at the circus. My animal was an elephant, and she's wearing colorful gypsy-like clothes. I chose to draw her at the circus because of her album, "Funhouse," but also because P!nk's message is to just love life, and to just "roll with the punches."
Frida Paragraphs:

1. Why do you think Frida Kahlo painted so many auto-biographical paintings of herself?
Frida Kahlo painted so many auto-biographical paintings of herself because she painted how she felt and what she saw.
2. How do you feel that your image came out?
I was very happy with how my image turned out. I feel like I captured what I was trying to express. Even
though it doesn't automatically look like P!nk, with the writing and "Funhouse" theme, it all comes together.
3. Did you end up with the image you thought you were going to when you made your project outline?
Not at all. My original outline was going to me an image of P!nk surrounded by a forest, with black leather shorts and top, with a colorful billowing skirt. My idea did not resemble my outline in any way. P!nk is beside an elephant, in gypsy-like clothes with colorful ribbons in the background in the final image.
4. How would you do this differently if you were to start over again?
I would not change anything about my image, but if I could go back I would spend more time on my paragraphs. I feel like I just got the basic, empty sentences down on the piece of paper, instead of really going into depth and making it mean something.

Calaca
The project really helped me reconnect with a family member, my great grandmother.
