U.S. MODEL SENATE
For our model senate project, we began the unit learning about U.S. Congress, how a bill gets turned into a law, and voting procedures amongst our government. We also did research on a class in "Issue Packets," where we would dive deeper into the issues of climate change, college debt, and immigration. Through these packets, we also familiarized ourselves with how the Democratic and Republican party views the issues, and how they propose we solve them. Beginning our work preparing for Model Senate, everyone was assigned a senator, political party, and committee. In my case, I was also assigned a specialty role of a lobbyist on the Climate Change Committee. Preparing for exhibition, I researched climate change while committee members were writing our bills for Senate. I then wrote a mock bill on AHS parking with a partner, and all the other experts and lobbyists did the same. These were used to practice using "Parly Pro" even further. While this was happening, the specialty roles chose the three bills that would be used in Model Senate, and we were able to start our exhibition. Our exhibition consisted of three days in our separate committees, giving speeches, having caucuses, and writing amendments. After this, we were finally able to move into the voting block where we moved 2/3 bills out of committee.
